National Semi Q3 profit more than doubles

Chipmaker National Semiconductor Corp. said Thursday after the markets closed that its third quarter profit more than doubled from last year, helped by higher sales and improved gross margins. The company's quarterly earnings per share came in above analysts' expectations as did its quarterly sales. At the same time, the company forecast fourth quarter sales above analysts' current consensus estimate.

Aeropostale Q4 Profit Rises 42%, Tops Estimate
Teen apparel discount retailer Aeropostale Inc. said Thursday its profit for the fourth quarter increased 42% over last year, driven by strong customer reaction to its spring merchandise assortment, which resulted in higher sales and improved margins. Quarterly earnings came in well ahead of the analysts' expectations, as did sales. Looking ahead, the company provided earnings outlook for the first quarter, which is expected to beat the Street consensus.
Pfizer Terminates Phase 3 Trial Of Figitumumab In Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
pharma giant Pfizer Inc. announced the termination of a Phase 3 clinical trial examining the effects of investigational compound figitumumab with erlotinib as a second/third-line treatment in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, as the study failed to show any significant results of the desired end point. In addition, the company said its two Phase 3 studies of Sutent in advanced breast cancer also did not meet their primary endpoints.
