Abbott Laboratories said Tuesday that it has agreed to buy Facet Biotech Corp. for $27 per share in cash to further strengthen its biologics capabilities and pharmaceutical pipeline. The net value of the deal is about $450 million, which includes a purchase price of about $722 million less Facet's projected cash and marketable securities at closing of about $272 million.

Tuesday, biotechnology company InterMune, Inc. said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Pulmonary-Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee voted 9-3, recommending the approval of Esbriet or pirfenidone to treat patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis to reduce decline in lung function.
Navistar Q1 Profit Plunges, Shares Down
Truck maker Navistar International Corp. said Tuesday its profit for the first quarter plunged from last year, hurt by lower revenues and higher expenses. However, the company managed to post a profit amid tough economic conditions, due to improved commercial performance, higher market share and efforts to control costs over manufacturing expenses. Following the news, the company's shares lost nearly 8% in after-hours trading.
